Trust your shrink film supplier with weights and measures ?
Many extruders of shrink film in the US sell shrink film by "gross weight" defined as a full 10% over gauged plus the tare weight of cores, stretch wrap and pallet. So the true cost per package is up to 15% more than the low price on the invoice. This became common practice in the 1970's and is still often listed in the fine print of terms and conditions of sale.
Caveat emptor if your supplier takes advantage of the information asymmetry and does not mark both the footage and weight on each roll.
Bag makers and other converters are savvy about what is known as yield, or area derived from a specific number of pounds of a given thickness. Industrial users who buy film by the pound and cut off to make packages are in effect converters. Without the mathematical tools, it is impossible to audit yield.
