The sealant layer is the lynchpin of Vertical form / fill / seal VFFS performance.
Whether monolayer or lamination, the seal layer must deliver:
fast tack through contaminants while preventing channel leakers when a foldover wrinkle occurs, often in hostile ambient conditions
consistent high slip level for maximum speed without picking off or migrating to the ink of a surface print or the outer layer of a lamination.
lamination to an outer layer of polypropylene (PP), nylon or polyester ( PET )
sealability to plastic reclosable zipper
If food or food ingredients is being packaged, the seal layer resides in contact with the product and must be GRAS, FDA and Kosher approved.
The seal layer usually does not need to be coextruded or COEX.The sealant layer does not necessarily provide barrier properties even if it is a layer of a coextruded structure with an EVOH core.If barrier is a requirement, it can be achieved by laminating the seal layer to an outer layer having barrier properties, most often Saranex.
We offer several proven grades for the specific requirements ranging from foodservice ingredient packaging to retail.
